Abadilla Family_ScholarshipCongratulations to our 2016 recipient, Athena Abadilla. Athena is a graduate of Waimea High School and will be attending Barnard College at Columbia University. Athena is a talented young women who has a passion for gender equality and female empowerment. She believes in the mission that the YWCA stands for and has a desire to give back to the community in which she comes from. Mahalo to everyone who came out to help us celebrate and honor Athena in the presenting of her scholarship.

Since 1921, the YWCA of Kaua‘i has continuously provided programs and services to our rural island community, our mission is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

The YWCA of Kauai is a leader on issues of women’s empowerment and nurturing women’s leadership in our community. We work to improve the lives of women and girls through economic empowerment, community education and ending the types of violence that are prevalent against women and girls.  The YWCA is passionate in the belief that women have a right to equal opportunity in pursuing their dreams and making decisions that best meet their personal goals.  This scholarship is our commitment to encourage and support young women in achieving their educational pursuits.

2018 Young Women’s Scholarship Application

Scholarship Amount: $2,000 for first place & $1,000 for second place

Number Awarded: 2 per year

Eligibility: Young women who are Kaua`i residents, are already enrolled in college, are planning to attend college, and have met graduation requirements (this includes public schools, private schools and home school, GED programs). We encourage those who have a passion for women’s issues.

Requirements: Submit completed application (including short essay) and two letters of recommendation by 3:30pm, Friday, March 23, 2018 to YWCA of Kaua`i.
